The people of the United States of America have gone through perhaps one of the fiercest Presidential contest. The issues and tempers that rose during the campaign; the refusal to exchange pleasantries during debates, the calling of names, the excitement to make history heightened all sorts of tactics. Even though the sovereign right is reserved for only American citizens, the outcome of the election affects the entire world.
Apart from the fact that the world is more open and the global economy linked together under the current dispensation of global village, the size and influence of the United States economy to the world must draw your interest in the election of the United States even if you live in a 200 population sized village in Uganda or Nigeria or Zimbabwe or Ghana. It should be of more concern if you are in business, schooling or even if unemployed because the impact will work its way to your path and may affect policies of your nation.
International trading markets started reacting to the news of the election. Definitely some trade deals and policies will be reviewed. Some relationships, policies and support plans that may affect the constructions of the road next to your home or the school building promised by the authorities in your country may be affected. The outcome of the results may affect the strategic plan of your organization in its expansion drive or partnership with some agencies.
The possibilities are enormous.
It is time we understand that our lives; personal, educational or career; will be inconsequential if it does not affect the world and for a positive and proactive impact, we must seek understanding of the direction of the world, most importantly those who have influence in making global impact; another reason to read and learn the lessons of globalization and other societal impacts.
Apart from the fact that the United States is considered the most powerful country in the world, it is instructive for citizens of other countries especially young people and the young adults (The growing populace) to take keen interest in issues of politics, trade and other business relations, economic development, and other inter-national partnerships and relationships. These are the things that drive the globalization agenda and foster peer development and networking as a means to reducing the gap of development among nations.
You may not have planned to travel to the US but remember international trade affect the very price of goods and services traded in your country. The US dollar ($) is the primary currency and so even in a cashless environment, the country still hold some popular stake in your daily lives; at least that is how our world is behaving currently and until you plan your active participation, you will merely become a ‘passive’ passage with no stake.
British citizens were the only ones that voted during the ‘infamous’ Brexit agenda, yet the effect was and is still felt by most economies especially on the international trading markets. Ebola started (making reference to the the recent cases that traumatized the entire world) from one country, but other nations spend millions of dollars on protection and security and those who could not act swiftly suffered some consequences. That is how another country’s administrations and operations have come to affect yours and mine, it’s a global village, what you are hearing in another jurisdiction is much closer than you know.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the next generation is becoming more exposed to global issues on daily basis through social media and the internet. The important question is how do we digest and make meaning to leverage greater impact out of this information availability.
Do not take a passive position on matters that affect other nation, it is a sign that it is closer to affect you. I congratulate the President elect, Mr. Donald Trump and pray his Presidency will impact a great global advancement in all its intent and purposes.
Watch out for the reactions of global commodities and currency markets. Business impacts will soon start realigning with revised strategy.
The world is moving very fast, you either get along with the speed or get trampled upon.
